Install oil pressure gauge

Locate a suitable threaded oil fitting in the engine's block. If your car uses a factory oil pressure gauge, use that fitting to install the new oil line.

If your car has an oil pressure warning light, this will also be installed in the block, but it will likely be only a wire that runs to a sensor. Install the threaded fitting that came with the oil pressure gauge on the other end of the oil line. Wind Teflon tape around the threads on the fitting to prevent leaks.

Thread the fitting into the block. The gauge kit will likely come with several different fittings that have different threads to fit a variety of makes. Start the engine to ensure the oil gauge is correctly reading the engine's oil pressure. Step 1 Slide the end of the clear oil line into the fitting on the back of the oil pressure gauge, tightening the fitting onto the line with an open-ended wrench. The oil pressure gauges are designed to inform the driver if the oil falls below a safe operating level or if the oil pressure is too high. Driving any vehicle without an oil pressure gauge can indeed lead to catastrophic engine failure. Most oil pressure gauges come with mounting panels and also some necessary installation hardware.

All those essential hardware can easily be purchased from any auto parts dealer if they are not included with the oil pressure gauge. First of all, chose the location where you have to set the oil pressure gauge. The location may be in the dashboard or on the right or left side of the dashboard.

Most people install outside the dashboard, but it's recommended inside the dashboard location because it is easy for the driver to look at the gauge during the drive. The next step is to remove the gauge panel with the help of a screwdriver so that the installation of the gauge could be easy, and the wiring attachment may not seem to be complicated. As we are directly working with the oil tanker of the vehicle, so it is essential first to remove the oil drain plug and remove the oil in a pan here.

You can also change the car oil ; it's a good chance after clearing the oil, close the drainer. The next step is to remove the old oil pressure gauge, which is faulty; remove it with the help of a screwdriver and keep its nails safe aside for use in the new meter. Because it fits in them, and you should not have to buy new nails for the new gauge try to work with the old one. Now remove the oil airway, the main pipe in the bonnet for oil pressure measurement. It is cylindrical and can be recognized because it is attached to the back of the dashboard; a pressure gauge wire connected to its sensor removes it with a wrench.

You can replace it with a new one or clean it and set it as it fits earlier. The purpose of removing the oil pipe was to check the sensor is working correctly or not. Because the principal fluctuation starts from the sensor; you can change it if needed.

A signal wire is attached to the sending unit; that sending unit contains the other cables. And then drop the other wires behind the dashboard from the pre-drilled hole in the dashboard. It will help to connect easily at the back of the dashboard. This is an opportune time to change the oil filter as well.

Remove the old oil pressure sending unit with a ratchet and socket; the oil pressure sending unit is shaped like a cylinder and is usually located near the oil filter. Refer to the new oil pressure sending unit in the oil pressure gauge kit to help you identify the part. Connect the signal wire to the sending unit and run it through a grommet in the firewall in close proximity to the gauge. Run the wire through the gauge panel hole, or the pre-drilled hole in the dashboard, allowing extra wire for easy connecting.

Connect the signal wire to the post on the back of the gauge. The gauge posts are marked for correct wire installation. Run a power supply wire from a switched volt power supply, such as the cigarette lighter, dome light, radio, or fuel pump, to the power post on the gauge.

The power supply must be switched to operate on and off with the ignition. Run a ground wire from the vehicle chassis to the ground post on the gauge; a poor ground can result in an inoperable gauge or false reading.

Use an existing grommet in the firewall, or drill a hole in the body of the vehicle, and route the wire to the chassis or frame.

Mount the gauge into the gauge panel, or the hole in the dash, with the supplied mounting hardware in the kit.
