FPW26 runs and tells me that it's running on an under Windows 3. FoxPlus also runs but thinks it's on an under DOS 5. It also says " c Fox Software" and makes me feel very old. You may need to use XP Compatibility mode. But I haven't had an opportunity to use Windows 7 yet, so I'm not certain. I am looking to update computer. I was able to run the program only on 32 bit Windows 7. Is there any way to get it to run of Windows 7 64 bit?
Or is there some particlar flavor of Windows 7 Required? I'm just amazed that people are still running FoxPro. What a great product! Iolair MacWalter Network Engineer. This issue is resolved by looking at the code generated by the screen writer that Foxpro 2. They create a Foxplus line in the code that needs to be rem out. Of course are old programs, that are written in FP2.
I see, that the main problem, that the network sharing has problems on XP virtualbox. As desktop application works FP2. Not only are there old programs that still run fine, there are old problems that newer software make so much more difficult that they wouldn't be worth doing any more. I would have preferred to have used Windows 7 64 bit but Foxpro won't run in it. Apparently, the 16 bit emulation is not included. Not completely through testing for my applications but foxpro appears to run right out of the box wihtout issue.
No need for virtual machine. I figure that Windows 7 will be supported for the next ten years like XP had after which time I'll probably be ready to retire. Ironically, I had decided on Foxplus 25 years ago thinking that the open source code could be ported to any current platform de jour only for the screen formatting to become the real unsurmountalbe issue amoungst a host of impracticel issues.
What was I thinking???! Thanx for the answers just the same. Red Flag This Post Please let us know here why this post is inappropriate. Create a free Team What is Teams? Learn more. FoxPro 2. But I wonder if anyone can suggest a temporary alternative path, which doesn't involve either: a downgrade bit Windows to bit, or b run the app on a virtualized bit XP Thanks! PS: Happy New Year!!! Since the program got better with the features provided thanks to its ability to run under XP, these "services" must be retained ie: networking, email integration. So unless there's something I don't know, I have to virtualize XP.
That would require an additional license. But the main reason is worse user experience and re-training. I tried XP Mode. The setup for the legacy app to work well in the virtualized environment was a bit cumbersome, the VM was slow, the support would be more complex. So in the end I decided to use Win7 bit as long as possible, after all the bit workstations with 3GB run more than fine. I appreciate your effort and I thank everyone for your kind advices.

DOS is no good they now require the new services provided by running the app on XP ie: networking, distributed printing, etc.
I'll look into the other suggestions — Rolando. Run the app on a Windows Terminal Server. SpacemanSpiff SpacemanSpiff 8, 1 1 gold badge 22 22 silver badges 35 35 bronze badges.
